Setup Requirements for Telematics
Prior to using the TSD Telematics on the web and/or mobile app, make sure you do the following:
- Complete your onboarding process. You’ll be connecting your vehicles using your manufacturer for vehicle approval, if applicable, your telematics service provider, and ATMS GEN2.0 as your fleet management platform. (The onboarding process may differ based on your telematics provider, and whether you're using direct connect (device-free) or device-based Telematics.)
- Verify your fleet information in ATMS GEN2.0. Make sure unit information for your active fleet, such as VIN and license plate, is up-to-date.
- Set up to recoup fuel costs and charge for miles / kilometers driven. If you plan to recoup fuel costs, assess your Fuel Charge rates setting. Charge for miles / kilometers with your Per Mile / Kilometer Rate setting, with an option to offer free miles / kilometers if you want to only charge for excessive miles / kilometers driven. Tturn on these charges within your Rate Codes, so accurate charges can be calculated at return.
- Grant employees permission to view GPS locations, if applicable. If using the GPS location tracking component of the integration, make sure employee roles have the Access to Map permission to view GPS information, if allowed on the agreement.
- Turn on Geofence Breach alerts. The Telematics Hub offers geofencing capabilities to let you set geographic virtual boundaries, or geofences, around an area, so you can be alerted when vehicles leave your lot or otherwise designated service area.
- Set up your geofences in the Telematics Hub. See "Geofences".
- Make sure Auto texting and emails is turned on for alerts to be texted or emailed.
- Turn on Geofence breach types of alerts within the Alerts Hub setting.
- Toggle on types of employee-facing alerts for parking lot and service area geofences within the Geofence Breach Alerts setting. If customer-facing geofence breach alerts are turned on for your location by TSD, you can also use this setting to enable customer-facing alerts for an out-of-area service area geofence within the Geofence Breach Alerts setting.

Note: The Telematics Hub and Agreement # links in the emailed alert require you to be signed into the application.
Geofence breaches are logged in the unit history, accessible via the History button on the side panel of a unit record. See "Unit History (Event Logging)" for more information.
You can automatically notify customers when their vehicle exits a designated geofence, giving you a way to alert your customers about out-of-area usage that may incur additional charges, without relying on catching the alert manually.
Alerts are sent via email and text to the primary and additional drivers on the agreement, regardless of whether the customer has opted to received texts or emails.
"Warning: You have left an allowed range for your vehicle and may incur charges. Contact [dealer name] at [dealer phone]."
When a vehicle on an agreement exits a geofence, a blue banner will be displayed at the top of the agreement: "Unit [#] exited [Geofence Name] on [mm/dd/yyyy] at [time]."
Geofence exit events are logged in the agreement history, accessible via the History button on the side panel of the record. See "Agreement History (Event Logging)" for more information.

Viewing Telematics in ATMS GEN2.0
Note: In order to view fuel and mileage in ATMS GEN2.0, prerequisites must be met.
Criteria to view a unit's fuel and mileage:
Precise, automated fuel and mileage tracking lets you recoup fuel costs, charge for miles driven, and streamline the agreement process (no need to check the car and manually enter fuel/mileage readings).
Make sure your unit records have the correct Fuel Capacity or tank size, so ATMS GEN2.0 can accurately calculate fuel levels.
A unit's latest mileage and fuel1 are filled in automatically when you do any of the following on the web or mobile app:
- View or edit a unit record. The Last Communication on a unit record displays the last date and time this information was received by the telematics device (Telematics ID). If ATMS GEN2.0 is having trouble connecting to the device, the following is displayed in at the top of the record: "Failed to connect to Connected Car device in unit [Unit Number], please check the device."
- Assign a unit. Data is filled in at open or during an exchange.
- Return a unit. Data is filled in at close or during an exchange
You can edit these fields, if necessary. If no data is found, these fields will be blank.
The fuel level percentage is rounded to the closest Fuel Level, Fuel Level In, or Fuel Level Out option in ATMS GEN2.0. For example, if the fuel level is calculated to be 52%, it will be rounded down to 0.50 (half a tank). If 70%, it will be rounded up to 0.75 (3/4 tank).
An active unit is considered a "Connected Car" when it has a Connected Car device, if using dongle-based telematics, or if it is enrolled in direct connect Telematics. Connected Cars enrolled in Telematics have the Enable Connected Car toggle turned on in the unit record. Connected Car units, and agreements with Connected Cars assigned, have an additional tag () next to the status on the record, so they're easy to find. You can access these records in one of two ways:
- Operations Dashboard (
). Click the Connected Car status tile on the Fleet Operations dashboard to view active units in the fleet that are currently enrolled or pending enrollment in TSD Telematics, sorted by those that are pending enrollment first. - Fleet Hub or Agreement Hub. Click the
Connected Car search filter check box on the left panel.
